I am looking for viable process mapping software, discussion tools, or documentation that would be useful in our institution's efforts to map processes. Anyone have anything that really worked well? Recommend any readings et al?

Another product that may be useful to you is TaskMap, from Harvard Computing Group. It requires Microsoft Visio but is very easy to use and permits web publishing of all data created with the system. Their URL is http://www.taskmap.com

Hello:
I use a combination of Microsoft Visio and Powerpoint depending on how complex I want to get. I have done process maps of all of our key enrollment management functions and we are making changes in our key process areas based on the maps.

There is QMAP (sold as QVIS in the US), see:
http://www.qmap.co.uk.
It manages links between maps when editing the drill down hierarchy structure. Has a built in change request system allowing feedback from those that follow the processes to the process owners. Convert to html, MS Project, import from Visio, and generate diagrams from textual descriptions. It also allows costing of processes.
