The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) is an independent corporation and one of two commission members of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA), which is one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States. The Higher Learning Commission accredits degree-granting post-secondary educational institutions in the North Central region.
Commission Launches Academy for Student Persistence and Completion
The Commission has launched a new Academy addressing Student Persistence and Completion. The Academy is designed to build institutional capacity to improve persistence and completion of its students focusing on effective collection of data, evaluation and improvement of current strategies, and development of new strategies. The Commission encourages institutions interested in joining the Academy to learn more and apply today.
Commission Approval for Direct Assessment Competency-based Programs
In 2013 the Higher Learning Commission approved three institutions accredited by the Commission to initiate direct assessment competency-based programs in disciplines ranging from nursing to liberal arts. These programs are among the first direct assessment programs developed by institutions of higher education in the United States.
The Commission has created a Substantive Change Screening Form and Application for HLC-accredited institutions interested in developing direct assessment programs. The Commission will begin reviewing these applications in December 2013.
Registration Open for 2014 Annual Conference
Registration is now open for the Commission’s 2014 Annual Conference, to be held April 10-14 in Chicago. The Conference offers a broad range of sessions and services that include pre-conference workshops, more than 100 general program sessions, an Exhibit Hall, and an Accreditation Share Fair. Each year, more than 4,000 administrators and faculty from more than 850 higher education institutions attend the Conference. Register today!
