The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) is an independent corporation and one of two commission members of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA), which is one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States. The Higher Learning Commission accredits degree-granting post-secondary educational institutions in the North Central region.

May 16 Deadline to Apply for the Academy for Student Persistence and Completion

Apply today for the next cohort of the Commission's Academy for Student Persistence and Completion. The Academy, which was launched in December, is designed to build an institution's capacity to improve persistence and completion of its students. Institutions interested in participating in the Academy should review the Academy Overview and submit an application.

The Board of Trustees of the Higher Learning Commission met on February 27, 2014. The following actions took place.

Proposed Policy Changes   

The Board approved on first reading the following proposed revised policies. The Commission invites comments on these proposed policies before the Board takes final action in June 2014. This policy change allows the Commission to conduct a survey of student satisfaction to be used by site-visiting teams at all comprehensive evaluations for initial candidacy, initial accreditation, and reaffirmation of accreditation. Barbara Gellman-Danley Appointed President of the Higher Learning Commission

Barbara Gellman-Danley, president of University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College, has been appointed to succeed Sylvia Manning as president of the Higher Learning Commission. She will assume the presidency on July 7, 2014.

Commission Seeking New Peer Reviewers

The Commission is currently seeking new members for its Peer Corps. The Commission relies upon the work of peer reviewers for its accrediting activities. These volunteers generously share their knowledge and experience to assure and advance institutional quality. Learn more and apply today!
