The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) is an independent corporation and one of two commission members of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA), which is one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States. The Higher Learning Commission accredits degree-granting post-secondary educational institutions in the North Central region.

Exemplary Program Processes Award: Call for Applications
Applications for the 2014 Association for General and Liberal Studies Award for Exemplary Program Processes are now being accepted. The 2014 Award will recognize institutions using any one of three processes to improve general and liberal education learning: Building Faculty Ownership of the Program, Achieving General Education Goals Using Co-Curricular Programming, or Providing Evidence of General Education Learning Though Assessment. Proposed Policy Changes

This policy change allows the Commission to conduct a survey of student satisfaction to be used by site-visiting teams at all comprehensive evaluations for initial candidacy, initial accreditation, and reaffirmation of accreditation. Barbara Gellman-Danley Appointed President of the Higher Learning Commission
Barbara Gellman-Danley, president of University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College, has been appointed to succeed Sylvia Manning as president of the Higher Learning Commission. She will assume the presidency on July 7, 2014.
